What’s up everybody! I hope the beginning of the Fall has you excited for the fast approaching new hoops season. We at BT Basketball have some great programs throughout the Fall, including hooking up with Dr. Gary Mascilak for something that I consider to be VERY important. But before we get to that, check out this quick video that explains all you can access with BT Basketball and how you can truly prepare yourself for 2012/13…

We already had one successful session this past Wednesday for the Fall Sessions. Round 2 is this upcoming Wednesday. Don’t let another week pass by without attending and get the best workout around.

Ok, you ready?

Don’t mean to scare you, but this is what my right knee looked like in October of my sophomore year of college. I had just undergone reconstructive surgery in order to repair the torn ACL I had suffered only a few weeks before. This began a long 9 month process of rehabilitating the knee to get back on the court. An entire year of collegiate basketball was taken from me due to this injury.

The scary part? I had never had any knee injuries prior to this. The scarier part? I hadn’t even been hit. I was playing preseason hoops, leading a fast break, and it just went. Just like that. No prior history, no warning signs, nothing. Or so I thought…

Check out how much my right thigh muscle atrophied (fancy word for disappeared) during this process.

After working my tail off to get back to full strength, I ran across another problem. Two and a half years later, January 4th to be exact, I was playing in a collegiate game. I rememeber it like it was yesterday. I was on the right wing, the guy was overplaying me. I cut backdoor, received the pass from the top of the key. The weak side defender came over to help. I caught the ball, took one step with my left leg to explode up to dunk (slight exaggeration), and got hit hard on my way up to the basket. Yet slightly before I got hit, as I was exploding up to the basket, my left knee snapped. I came down, writhing in pain, knowing it had happened. Again. Wondering if my college career was over. Wondering why this had happened again. Wondering if someone just hadn’t told me what I needed to do in order to prevent this from ever happening in the first place….

There are over 4.4 million adolescent sports related injuries per year, with over 200,000 of them being ACL injuries. These ACL injuries lead to surgery, months of rehab, and according to medical statistics an increase in re-injury and future arthritis. It is now widely accepted by medical experts that these and other sports injuries can be “significantly reduced” with a supervised neuromuscular training program to enhance balance, body/joint position awareness, movement technique, and functional core and closed chain strength. Timothy Hewett, PhD, top researcher at the renowned Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, reports injury reductions up to 80% with these types of clinician supervised programs.

BT Basketball is very excited to team with Dr. Gary Mascilak, a Sports Physical Therapist, Chiropractic Physician, and Certified Sports and Conditioning Specialist, he has over 25 years experience working with athletes at all levels in rehabilitation, injury prevention and performance training. He will be offering a 6 week program (12 sessions) to reduce the likelihood of sports injuries, while enhancing athletic performance. Upon completion of this program, the athlete will learn the movement prep and warm up techniques used by professional athletes prior to activity. The program will include a pre and post video performance analysis.

Yes, both legs are flexed!
