Another epic weekend in the books. 🏆🏆🏆 S Another epic weekend in the books.
🏆🏆🏆

Shout out to 6th boys, 9th boys, Varsity girls and boys for grabbing some new 👕👕👕

Back to work!
The progress of our players and teams this spring The progress of our players and teams this spring has been nothing short of astounding! And the credit lies in two places.
1. The players are focused on getting better and coming to work each and every practice.
2. Our coaches commitment to the improvement of our players. We’ve got the best in the biz, and it’s not particularly close.

Players of the last few weeks here we go!
-Anthony, Jonathan, Jacob, Christian
-Caroline, Gabby, Ava and Ainsley
-Kellen, Robbie and the super twins Logan and Landon
-Colleen, Kayleigh, Gabi, Gabby, Maddie and Lindsey
-Wyatt, Daniel, Jake and Otto
-Ben, Brian, Matthew and Christian

BACK TO WORK
Ball and body movement are the absolute key to get Ball and body movement are the absolute key to getting great shots. And, in turn, the most beautiful form of basketball (and it’s also the most fun to play). No matter how much the game evolves, movement will continue to be a massive factor in the quality of your shots. We start teaching this at a very young age. It’s the foundation of the game. And, eventually, it looks like what you see here. Proud of these guys for their unselfish play and their commitment for hunting the best shot available.

Some spectacular performances this weekend highlig Some spectacular performances this weekend highlighted by...

-5th grade boys (with a handful of 4th graders as well), coming through with two tough games in a row for their first shirts!

-Varsity boys putting together a couple of solid performances on both ends of the floor with contributions from everyone!

-8th grade girls (along with a few 7th) with a monster comeback in game two to bring home the shirts. Coach Danella has the girls playing spectacularly well!

Outstanding work people!

I probably haven’t shared as much of this as I s I probably haven’t shared as much of this as I should, but what a school year it’s been! I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to go and present my 3 day program to countless students at numerous schools since September. We have been able to dig deep over that timeframe and I always marvel at the ability of the students to not only think about and absorb critical and challenging topics, but also to properly articulate their thoughts on them. I think I learn more from them than they do from me.

I was most recently at Stillwater Township Elementary School with their 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Here are some kind words from their superintendent, Dr. William Kochis...

"Our students at Stillwater Township School were highly engaged with Brian during his workshops on topics such as self-awareness and respect. Throughout his 3-day workshop with students, he made personal connections which in turn led to thoughtful discussions and activities. These activities and discussions were also well-tailored to each grade level and relevant to their lives, in and out of school. It was a pleasure to work with Brian to bring this program into our school and we look forward to welcoming him back again next year!"

Big shout out to my old friend Kurt Walton. I’ve known Kurt since I was playing in high school and he was the WV head coach. Without his vision and belief in me, I would not have this program or any of the opportunities it has provided me.

Still have a number of schools to go before the summer hits. Maybe I’ll see you!
If you’re doing it right, every weekend is a bit If you’re doing it right, every weekend is a bit of a roller coaster. You don’t want to win every game because then you aren’t playing against any better competition. You certainly don’t want to lose every game either, for obvious reasons. When you lose it’s not talked about publicly, just the wins. But you can get better in losses and worse in wins. Our goal is to get better no matter what.

A few successes from the weekend include...

-4th grade girls snagging a bounce back win in their first weekend.

-Coach Zach and our 3rd/4th boys brought home shirts on their first weekend!

-Coach Alyssa and her JV girls bring home shirts on just their second weekend!

-8th boys dominate and walk away with shirts.

-Zach’s varsity crew dominates as well. New shirts for the fellas.

-4th/5th boys get their first win on their first weekend!

-Varsity girls bring home the bright orange.

Another week of work starts tomorrow!

Man I’m so proud of our teams today. Pictured or Man I’m so proud of our teams today. Pictured or not, all teams battled with everything they had. The ability to simply not quit is so underrated. Everyone has been working so hard at practice and it’s showing up in the games.

-6th boys put in work today with high amounts of energy. Dominated the first two games and was this close to winning the third!

-6th girls bring home the chip and shirts with two wins in their first games of the season!

-8th girls bounced back from an early loss to grab their first win in their first weekend!

-8th boys squad with @zachammirati had a major bounce back as well with their first win on their first day!

Those are just a few, but not all, of the highlights from a jam packed Saturday.

I am so fortunate to be able to coach such great kids. And I’m just as fortunate to have such amazing coaches by my side.
Just wrapped up our first month so it’s time for Just wrapped up our first month so it’s time for some shout outs. Everyone in the program has been putting in serious work in order to get better. We’ve made such progress on all levels in such a short time. Here are just some of the standouts early on. Just about impossible to choose since so many are working so hard.

-Colin, Dylan, Joey and Robert
-Olivia, Kylie, Izzy and Jamie
-Erik, Eli, Charlie and Gio
-Tyler, Alex, Miguel, Christian, Michael and Tommy
-Amanda, Jackie, Grace and Ella
-Andrew, Chris, Dylan and Alex

Really proud of not just these players, but all of our spring players. Practices really have been incredible. The kids are attentive, focused, working and fun (yes that is important too).

We will keep at it!
Improvement over everything. But it’s always nic Improvement over everything. But it’s always nice to add some W’s and shirts to the mix.
Some hard fought wins including some in OT and big comebacks. No quit in our kids.

What a season! We are so proud of so many of you. What a season! We are so proud of so many of you. It was a year of championships and milestones for so many players that we’ve spent 100’s of hours in the gym with over many, many years.

Congratulations to everyone who earned an all conference nod, exceeded the 1,000 point mark, set a school record, won a county championship (and MVP) or a state championship!

You put in the work and these are the results. Not on this list? Use it as motivation for your off season work!

Looking forward to seeing who is listed next year!
Where to begin. Oddly - not with all the wins, per Where to begin. Oddly - not with all the wins, personal accolades & banners. As many as there are, that is not your legacy. It goes way beyond that. You set the standard & ultimate example on how to carry yourselves. In spite of your wild success, you stayed humble & focused.

You have been a treasure to this town & community. Young girls look up to you with stars in their eyes. I can’t tell you how many times at clinics/camps girls would ask which of you is coming to help out today.

I’ve had the honor of calling & commentating over 40 games since your freshman year. What you meant to people, specifically during Covid, is immeasurable. Nobody was allowed at games. But they could tune in & escape for 90 minutes thanks to the way you beautifully played the game together as one unit. Dozens of people over the years have told me that their family watches from all over the country.

You could have attended other schools. But you made the commitment to each other to stay together as Spartans. That loyalty paid off in spades. You became a generational team. You rallied a community around you with what can only be described as magic. Dominating performances, monster shots in massive moments. Overcoming the biggest of adversities and obstacles. The personification of perseverance.

We celebrated with you. We hurt with you. We were happy for your wins because it made us feel good. But much more than that, we were happy FOR YOU, because of who you are.

Aside from calling games, attending games, watching you celebrate huge wins & doing off season work, what I will remember most is simple. It will be gearing up for the Covid season. Every day in the gym, sometimes until midnight. Never being satisfied & continuing to push each other. Day after day after day. Memories I will cherish forever.

And to my dear friend @cathwille that I have known since I was a child, who was the only person for the job. The love, respect, guidance & care you showed for this special group was the backbone of the success. It is your strength that made this all possible.

I have never watched a group provide as much joy as you have. From all of us to the 5 of you - thank you.
Congratulations to @jthsgbball on back to back sec Congratulations to @jthsgbball on back to back section chips! What a game, holy smokes! Took control early and then had to fight through some major adversity in the 2nd half to pull it out. What a team effort!

- @emilypoulas went on a personal 8-0 run in the 3rd quarter after Pequannock came storming back. Points were desperately needed and she provided. Then after Pequannock takes their first lead of the game under a minute left and Jtown on the ropes, Emily hits a MONSTER 3 to put them back up one. Added a few FTs later to push it to three. 23 points in all! I am so proud of this kid you have no idea!

- @kileyshatzel was HUGE! Defense, rebounding and adding a few buckets. And seals it with 2 nothing but net FTs with 5 seconds to go. She has come SOOOOOOO FAR!

- @_a.nwankwo_ overcame an injury and displayed massive guts once back in the game! Game changing will to win!

- @bryn.fitzgerald and @maddymanco controlled the pace of the game. Pequannock came storming back and would have taken control if not for their care of the ball.

Games are never won alone. Especially BIG games. There is nothing like playing in big games. But there is REALLY nothing like coming up BIG in big games. I’m so impressed and so proud of so many.

Enjoy this, you earned it!
Not a terrible way to spend a birthday! Pops came Not a terrible way to spend a birthday! Pops came over and in dominating fashion took over the clinic!

Amazing work today everyone, jam packed!
I have been AS proud of players before. But I’ve I have been AS proud of players before. But I’ve never been MORE proud than I am of Jonathan Cristillo. He might be the longest tenured member of our basketball family. Like all players, he’s had his ups and his downs. His struggles and setbacks. His moments of frustration. But like every good player, he persevered and continued to fight. He waited his turn and seized the moment. He loves the game and is an all time teammate. There is nobody more deserving of this MVP award.

And THIS, folks, is why I do this. Look at the joy on this kids face.
Priceless

Our Spring teams are based around one thing only.
Improvement.
Our practices are designed to allow the individual player to improve their skill set in all areas of the game. But that isn’t all. Additionally, we teach players how to properly play the game of basketball. Knowing that the ultimate goal for most players is to excel at the high school level, or continue on to college, we give players the tools to succeed in any system. Combining skill
enhancement and game knowledge leads to fulfilled potential. We do this in a way that encourages players to get out of their comfort zone in order to learn and grow.

Efficient practices.
Skill enhancement and game understanding.
Knowledgeable and experienced coaches.
Hard work in the proper atmosphere and environment.
That’s our proven recipe.
Come join the thousands of northern New Jersey players who have benefitted from that same recipe, including many of the best players to ever come through our area.

Spread the word. Tell your teammates, tell your coaches!

So many kids I’m proud of this winter season. Fr So many kids I’m proud of this winter season. From grade school up through college. Here are just a few of the high school kids that put in tons and tons of work with us from last March through the summer and the fall and are now having impactful seasons for their teams. Their on court recognition is well deserved.

And although Brynn sadly hasn’t played a game this year, I’m deeply proud of her in the early stages of her ACL recovery. Her attitude, perseverance, work ethic, will and support of her teammates in this very difficult time exemplifies why she not only is the player that she is, but the person that she is.

Keep it up everyone, the most important games are yet to come!
We had such a GREAT time working with the Sparta P We had such a GREAT time working with the Sparta PAL 3rd and 4th grade girls. The girls worked hard and were very attentive and coachable.
