Check out how BT Basketball is changing Northwest New Jersey basketball from the players, coaches, and parents themselves…

I am more than thrilled to be able to post the following testimonial from former Sparta coach Dennis Tobin. Unquestionably the best coach I have ever had, I owe immense credit to Coach Tobin for taking me to the next level. Tobin is an all north jersey figure in basketball for not only coaching, but as a player as well. Playing at Hopatcong High School, Tobin was the leading scorer in Sussex County history and it’s only 2,000 point scorer until his own player, Chris Jent, broke both of those records (his son, Matt, has since joined that exclusive club). Coach Tobin is also the most successful coach this area has seen. A true area legend, I am more than humbled for the words below, and appreciative for all he has done for me.

“Outstanding Player… Teacher… Coach… and Person.”

I have had the pleasure to know Brian for 21 years. Brian was one of the top three players to ever play for me at Sparta High School… elite company with Jon Deeb and Chris Jent. As a 3-year starter Brian led his team to a 63-12 record and 3 championship seasons. Brian maximized his potential more than any player I ever coached, largely due to his tremendous work ethic and commitment to fundamental drill work. These two assets that made him a great player are now the main reasons why he is currently one of the top basketball instructors in New Jersey. Over the last 10 plus years it has been extremely rewarding to observe Brian as a teacher and coach. He has the important quality as a teacher of the game of being able to analyze players’ weaknesses and develop an instructional plan consisting of drill work to maximize their potential. Brian has played an instrumental part in helping my two sons, Mike and Matt, enjoy successful high school and collegiate careers and for that I thank him for sharing his expertise. Most importantly than Brian being an outstanding player and coach is that he is a person players respect and enjoy working with and someone parents will find to be an excellent role model. If you want to maximize your potential as a basketball player on any level, grammar school, high school or college, I recommend you spend some basketball time with Brian Thomas!

“I would only introduce my team and children to someone I trust…”

I have been the head basketball coach at Jefferson Township High School for the past 16 years. Each off season I try to find the right blend of training for my team to help them improve as players as well as keep them motivated. I decided to contact Brian and have him train my basketball players. Right from the beginning it was an immediate success. Under Brian’s direction my players work extremely hard and continue to learn the valuable fundamentals that will help them improve as players. Each session is different and accomplishes the goal Brian sets out to reach. Brian tries to make each one of my players a student of the game. It is very reassuring to know that my team is being prepared in the off season by such a strong instructor. There is no wasted time.

I was so impressed with Brian’s instruction that I now have him training my two sons. Their improvement over the past year has been directly related to the instruction they receive from Brian. I have also asked Brian to come speak at my youth basketball camps. It is not easy to let another coach come into your program and give him full autonomy. I would only introduce my team and children to someone I trust, who is a great role model and is extremely positive and passionate about what they do. Brian Thomas is clearly that guy. I look forward to having my team and children do pre and post season workouts with BT Basketball.

“Brian is truly making an incredible difference…”

I have had the pleasure of seeing Brian Thomas as a player, a coach, a motivator, and basketball skill trainer. Brian is truly making an incredible difference with female and male basketball players in our community! His knowledge, lead by example attitude, skill set, and motivational techniques are just part of how he is making strides within our basketball community. When you are in a session with Brian it is as if you are the most important person he has ever trained. His vested focus on each player is what sets him apart from most. I am very thankful that Brian has started his business here, and recommend his talents to your daughter or son.

“Aidan is not only more skilled but also has a confidence level that we have never seen in him as a player.”

As a former HS basketball coach, I am highly critical on the training that my son receives. I need him to be challenged, pushed and mentored in a way that reinforces the ideas and concepts that I have taught him. Growing up in Sparta and knowing Brian for a long time, it was a natural progression that my son, Aidan, train with him. I am not only impressed with Brian’s knowledge of current and innovative training principles, but also his compassion and overall concern for the players and families he works with. After attending Brian’s camp and training with him all summer, Aidan is not only more skilled but also has a confidence level that we have never seen in him as a player. This can be directly attributed to the work he has put in with Brian and the time, effort and caring that he has given Aidan throughout the summer. I am glad to not only have him work on the basketball skills that Aidan needs but also to have him as a mentor and role model as well.

“In such a short period of time…”

Thank you to Brian Thomas and his coaching staff for their efforts during this Fall AAU Basketball season. In such a short period of time I have seen my son improve his basketball skills but his court awareness has improved as well!

I appreciate the fact that winning, although important, takes a back seat to player development. In my opinion, BT Basketball is where every Sussex County Basketball player should go to improve their game.

Thanks again Brian,

“What I appreciate about Brian is his ‘old school’ approach…”

“My daughter has played and trained with Brian for the last 5 years. What I appreciate about Brian is his ‘old school’ approach focusing on skilled based fundamentals and conditioning being at the core of BT Basketball. Another thing that separates BT Basketball is Brian’s patience with his players. My daughter has appreciated Brian’s calm, clear, communication approach that never seems to waver from practice, to games, to off court conversations. I have two younger daughters that I would not hesitate to work with Brian in the future because I know BT basketball and Brian will be a good basketball and personal experience for them.”

“We couldn’t ask for more in a basketball coach or clinic…”

Brian Thomas’ skills clinics have been instrumental in my son’s progress. The clinics focus on the basics which are the cornerstone of the game. Brian is a great teacher and promotes a fun learning environment for all of the kids. I would highly recommend the Brian Thomas skills clinics for players of all levels. You can never have too much practice. His goal is to help each child meet his or her potential – and he succeeds in doing that! We couldn’t ask for more in a basketball coach or clinic.

“From the 12th pick in 8th grade to making the JV team her Freshman year!”

Basketball has been a big part of my daughter’s life for many years. She has worked extra hard being vertically challenged, been coached by great people and attended every clinic we could get her to. Her mind has known what to do but her body was holding back.

We heard about BT Basketball through friends and added it to her routine.

A couple of months of clinics plus several hours in the weeks prior to HS tryouts helped her go from 12th pick in 8th grade to making the JV team her freshman year. Is she done? Heck no! Every practice, every game, is an audition for the next, as it should be. You cant make it to one point and rest on your laurels. Training, clinics and constantly pushing harder is essential to continued growth and becoming a great team player. There is no doubt in my mind the short time with Brian impacted her physically and mentally on the court. Brian’s intensity for the game and attitude toward his players is awesome. Subtly pushing them over and again, effortlessly bursting into moves for them to recreate and carefully breaking it down until it clicks. He makes it seem so easy I feel as though I could get out there and do it myself..NOT 😉

We look forward to many years working with Brian and couldn’t imagine a future in basketball without his continued training and enthusiasm.

“…always amazed at how much she learns from each workout!”

Brian Thomas has become an essential part of my daughter’s training. Tyra has attended many of Brian’s clinics and has worked with him privately and in small groups. She always looks forward to her workouts with him and is always amazed at how much she learns from each workout. There are always new drills that help to improve her ballhandling, speed, agility and shooting. Brian makes all the clinics and workouts fun and works them hard at the same time. We will continue to utilize his services year-round to help prepare my daughter for high school and beyond. You can’t go wrong with Brian Thomas and BT Basketball!

“Great Coach and positive influence on our daughter…”

If you have a child who is passionate about basketball and has the desire to improve and become the best they can be, then look no further than Brian Thomas!!

Our daughter Courtney has been working with Brian for almost 2 years and his commitment, enthusiasm, knowledge and approach to teaching the fundamentals has made a positive impact on her. As a freshman starting varsity, she was “thrown into the fire” playing against girls 2-3 years older and taller. Working with Brian who was also a point guard, she was prepared both physically and mentally to the challenge and for the most part held her own out on the court. Courtney continues to learn and the hard work will benefit her in the seasons to come. Besides Brian’s knowledge of the game, he has a great rapport with the kids! Brian creates a fun environment where they laugh and tease each other but, when it comes down to the nitty-gritty it’s all business. His workouts are intense and exhausting but educational and fun as well. Thank you Brian for being a great coach and your positive influence on our daughter!

Michael and Naomi Furrey

“Our daughter got so much out of playing for Brian, but most importantly really enjoyed the experience.”

It is not often that someone exceeds your expectations in life, but Brian Thomas certainly did for us in coaching and instructing our daughter Meghan. Brian is an energetic and innovative teacher who stresses the fundamentals. He makes drill work fun for his players, and introduces new approaches to advancing your individual skills as a player. Our daughter got so much out of playing for Brian, but most importantly really enjoyed the experience. Brian’s passion for the game of basketball is very evident and contagious to his players. Not only have Meghan’s skills improved since she started playing for Brian, but so has her love for the game.

Brian is a first class individual, who treats every person with whom he comes into contact with the highest degree of respect. As someone who has coached against Brian, I can tell you that his teams are fundamentally sound, well prepared and highly intelligent. Brian conducts himself with a great deal of dignity and has a tremendously positive influence on his players both on and off the court. Not only does Brian provide a great example of “what good looks like” on the floor (through his coaching and instruction) but he also provides a great example of how to conduct oneself in life. This, in our opinions, is what coaching and teaching is all about. As parents, we are very grateful that Brian has become a part of our daughter’s life. Thank you Brian!

“I can honestly say I enjoy watching Brian work his basketball magic with the kids more than any others I have been to.”

I can not say enough positive things about Brian Thomas and what he provides for kids in basketball. His flamboyant personality and passion for the game is amazing! He is definitely at the top of the list for his craft. If a player wants to learn and improve at basketball, attending Brian’s clinics is a must! He introduces a skill, breaks it down, progresses the kids through it by gradually becoming more advanced, then culminates it with a fun contest involving that skill. The kids love it! They are learning, working hard, and having fun all at the same time! It does not get much better than that! I have been to many clinics during my 26 year career and I can honestly say I enjoy watching Brian work his basketball magic with the kids more than any others I have been to. I have been to a number of Brian’s clinics, and pick up some new things I can use from each one. I recommend BT Basketball to everyone I talk to.

“The Perfect Recipe: Brian’s Mix of Knowledge, Passion, and Dedication”

Brian’s knowledge and passion of the game is infectious to the players he works with. His training sessions may be intense, but it is guaranteed that your son/daughter will walk away and carry that learned knowledge, skills, and passion onto the court during game situations. Not only will that knowledge and growth in skills be carried onto the court, it will be noticed by coaches and parents, alike.

Our son Carlo has been working with Brian for about 2.5 years now.

I have had parents come up to me and tell me I have “quite the ball player” and then ask me if he is working with someone! They see his persistence on the court and his passion for the game. His coaches have also noticed his growth and knowledge of the game. One parent, who is also a coach elsewhere, came up to me after a game where Carlo scored 18 pts. (6 baskets, all 3 pt. shots!) and said he could tell Carlo “must still be training with Brian!” Carlo not only understands his position, he understands each of his teammates’ positions, and how the game works as a whole. He is aware of where the ball and his teammates are at all times on the court. Not to mention I have seen tremendous growth in his confidence as well. I honestly believe that this is a direct reflection of Brian’s training sessions and dedication to my son and the game. When you consistently work hard and prepare both physically and mentally for the game of basketball, growth will follow. I would whole heartedly recommend Brian for training with your son/daughter.

Thank you! Brian, for the positive influence (both on and off the court) you have had and will continue to have on Carlo both in his growth in the sport of basketball and in his personal growth as well.

Brian Thomas is an outstanding coach. He has taught me great offensive moves and drills to work on in practice and then use in my games. I also have learned dribbling exercises that have allowed me to improve my skills and deceive my opponent on the court. The best help he has given me is in correcting my shooting form and developing my confidence so I can score under pressure. Coach Thomas has a great personality and it is fun to work with him; he makes you want to work hard and play to make him proud.

“The Litmus Test Was The Strong Attendance…”

Brian,

Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to train the High Point Girls basketball players this fall. With our strong program and committed players, it was great to find a trainer and coach that could bring the girls training to another level.

Our group of freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors all raved about your commitment, approach and knowledge of the concepts you taught them each week. With a large group of high school girls (16-20), sometimes it can be difficult to keep all of the players engaged and working hard. Your full court drills and shooting competitions kept all the girls focused throughout the clinics. This hard work will benefit them and the team this upcoming season.

The litmus test for me was the strong attendance from the first clinic to the last. This was a voluntary program and speaks volumes on how much the players bought into your approach teaching method.

I look forward to working with you again in the future. Thanks again for your help in getting our program and players ready for the 2010/2011 basketball season.

“Showing A “Maturity” That We Haven’t Seen In The Past…”

Our son Frankie has been training with Brian for about one year now.

We have to say that this past year has been Frankie’s most successful in terms of personal growth and success. He not only had his best scoring game (46 points), but he has been recognized and complimented by almost every coach that has seen him play (and even some parents!). Coaches that worked with Frankie last year could not believe how much he has improved, not only his skill level, but his overall understanding of the game and his position as a point guard.

Two areas where Frankie has grown substantially are his foul shooting and his jump shot. He averaged 18.6 ppg and his foul shooting percentage was 88%.

Also, another benefit of understanding the game and becoming more confident is that Frankie is showing a “maturity” that we haven’t seen in the past. When you work hard and prepare physically, then you are prepared mentally.

My husband and I can honestly say that this improvement is a direct result of working with Brian. Brian’s workouts are intense and exhausting, but they are also educational and fun. Frankie always looks forward to his training sessions.

If you have a serious ball player in your life and he is looking to bring his game to the next level, we highly recommend Brian Thomas…you will not regret it.

“…Positive reinforcement for young players…”

I have known Brian since he was a standout player at Sparta High School. As a young player, Brian demonstrated a strong commitment and love of the game of basketball. The same principles he preaches to young players today during his clinics and individual skill improvement sessions, he has demonstrated in his own basketball career. I would highly recommend Brian to any young male or female player who is looking to improve their basketball skills and become a better player in the future.

His combination of positive reinforcement for young players, high energy, and strong belief in fundamentals is a great combination for success with your child.

“The Perfect Mix Of Enthusiasm, Knowledge & Training…”

Our son Chris has worked with Brian Thomas on a regular basis since the summer of 2010. Brian brings the perfect mix of enthusiasm, knowledge and training methods to every workout. Our son’s basketball performance as well as his confidence have improved greatly.

If your son or daughter is interested in playing at a higher level, I would strongly recommend training with Brian. Thank you Brian, for the positive impact you have made on our son.

“Made Learning & Playing Fun…”

Brian’s positive and passionate approach to teaching the fundamentals of basketball has motivated my daughter and she now looks forward to practicing basketball because Brian has made learning and playing fun. We saw Brian’s impact almost immediately in how she now approaches practicing, in her more confident play and how she conducts herself on the court.

“I Highly Recommend BT Basketball…”

Brian’s clinics and workouts definitely contributed to my child’s confidence, skills development and overall successful season. Equally important, under Brian’s tutelage, the fun and love of the game continued to be nurtured. I highly recommend BT basketball for individuals, teams and coaches!

“Positive Experience All Around…”

“…the kids learn how to play together, as a team, making each other better…”

Parents are always looking for the “perfect environment” for their kids. I have 2 kids who’ve found the perfect basketball environment playing for Brian at BT Basketball. Both of my kids have played with Brian for several seasons, and across many grade levels. Playing in the BT Basketball program, my kids have developed a love for the game, and built friendships with many other kids, who also come back season after season to play with Brian and his tremendous staff of coaches.

Let me say a little about the perfect basketball environment my kids love so much at BT Basketball. Too many AAU programs today focus only on winning the next tournament, with no thought to making players better over the “long haul”. With Brian, my kids continually develop real, fundamental basket skills. Over the course of a season, you see the fundamental skill level develop across all players, and all age groups. Drills are run with a specific developmental purpose in mind, and each kid gets enough individual attention to know how to perform a skill correctly. The pacing of drills and practices keeps everyone involved and engaged.

And it doesn’t stop there. Along with skills development, the kids learn the game of basketball from a team perspective. They’re taught to play as a team, for a team, and with a team. So many AAU programs today are about “star players”. At BT Basketball, the kids learn how to play together, as a team, making each other better while building a level of basketball knowledge that they take with them to other teams they play on.

Brian and his staff are truly wonderful in how they work with the kids. They have a great feel for the kids as individuals because they take the time to talk with and interact individually with the kids. They keep kids motivated, with encouragement and by challenging the kids to continually work to be better. You can see how much the kids enjoy playing in the program! There’s never a lack of volunteers to demonstrate new drills, or try a new skill. And you see my kids and their teammates come back season after season to keep growing and playing in this great program!

I can’t thank or recommend Brian Thomas and BT Basketball enough!

“Our Experience with Brian has been phenomenal!”

Our Experience with Brian has been phenomenal! My 10 Year old son Michael lives for basketball. Coming from a Rec Basketball team to Brian’s AAU Team was definitely a very empowering experience for him.

Brian takes the time to carefully assess each player and motivates each child to improve the skills they already have and learn new ones. The patience I have seen Brian display with the children is very uplifting. He provides a very organized learning environment during his practices. Every email or call is handled in a diligent manner and always very informative.

I have seen such an improvement with my sons basketball skills already with our first season with Brian and we look forward to spending much more time mentoring under Brian and working with the team!

“…a wonderful program that makes players feel good about themselves.”

My son has had the pleasure of playing for BT Basketball for 3 years.  His father was an all-star athlete and wonderful coach for many years at the rec level and we are are both very sensitive to what we believe to be “good coaching”.  Brian and his staff personify exactly that, and more!  The encouragement, the dedication to skill development, and the team atmosphere are all readily apparent throughout practices and tournament play, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the way my son has grown as a player since working with Brian: he has become the ultimate team-player – passing the ball, encouraging his teammates, down-playing his own abilities to promote others’.

Driving Adam to the court at 5:30 in the morning was the perfect example of the dedication Brian inspires in his players.  Kudos to you, Brian, and your staff, for developing a wonderful program that makes players feel good about themselves, encourages them to better their game, and allows them the opportunity to play the game they love!

“That was the most fun I’ve ever had!!”

When we encouraged our son to try out for this program, Daniel was a kid who’d only ever played with a local program that, although fun and a good intro to the sport of basketball, is a volunteer based program that only runs for a few weeks out of  the year.  Needless to say, Dan was completely intimidated at try outs and kept telling his dad and I that he was awful, he can’t do anything, knows no one there, and that he really wasn’t interested in joining BT.  That was a cue to us to go ahead and sign Dan up for it! : )  We encouraged him to press on (read: reinforced/bribed) despite the fear that this would become a weekly struggle to get him to practice, let alone to a game. The first practice was tougher than any he’d ever experienced… he ran the entire time, drilled, sweat, ran some more, drilled, sweat some more and was expected to do things he’d never been introduced to before. And while I silently sat and watched, sure he would walk out discouraged and refuse to return, incredibly, the first words out of his mouth were: “That was the most fun I’ve ever had!!”

We’d heard great things about BT, but now we could see for ourselves there must be a great formula here. Brian gives every kid out there a push regardless of existing skills sets and he and all of the coaches set the bar high, expecting improvement…..for each player’s sake as well as for the team’s. The bottom line is that the kids are there to learn the SPORT of basketball, not just to make baskets.  You can tell that the program is specifically designed so that kids have fun and build skills but also build confidence in every child who takes part in the program.  Daniel has plenty to still learn, but has absolutely improved (baby steps) and certainly has more confidence in himself in general and loves being a part of this team!

“Brian has helped to create the best version of my son”

Brian’s love of what he does permeates every action on and off the court and every interaction he has with the players and families. His enthusiasm is contagious, and because of this my son attends every camp or event that Brian runs. The knowledge he possesses is immeasurable, but not just for basketball. Brian understands how to reach each and every child getting the most out of every individual. I can honestly say that Brian has helped to create the best version of my son. His ability and confidence grows each time he steps on the court.

“An excellent program for my 6th grader”

BT Basketball has been an excellent program for my 6th grader to participate in. Brian’s training and coaching has been instrumental in helping him to grow his skills, both defensively and offensively, as well as his confidence. He has a lot of fun while training and learning, and has made some great new friendships too! He is looking forward to many more years of growing & learning to become a stronger player in Brian’s program. Thanks Brian & Coaches!

“A better team player”

This was the first year our son played Spring AAU Basketball.  We were looking for a program that places more focus on player development rather than learning plays.  After speaking with Brian, I was convinced his program was a good fit.  We are very happy with the decision to go with BT.  Brian and his staff were awesome!  1 hour per week of dedicated focus on skills and fundamentals gives the players the proper guidance they can use to continue practicing on their own.  And the team-focused practices were more about hustle and creativity rather than learning set plays.  As a result, I feel that Shane not only improved individually, but he’s also a better team player.  Thank you BT!
Tim Conley

“Fantastic program!!!”

Brian and his staff focus on the “fun”damentals.  Yes, i said it.  He creates an environment where the kids learn to play the game the right way while having fun at the same time.  My son grew as a basketball player and he is more confident in his skills today than he was when the program started.  He gives feedback in a constructive and positive manner and makes the kids feel special with his player of the week selections.  The true measure is whether you would do it again and the answer is a resounding YES!

“Brian is such a great coach”

I had the privilege to play at Sparta High school and win the State Championship my senior year. I was also taught how to actually shoot properly going thru the Sparta school system and score over 1,000 points.  My husband and I chose to go to Brian Thomas among other AAU teams because he to teaches the children the correct fundamentals.  He puts balls in these kids hands and does the basics with them. He teaches them dribbling drills, faking and driving moves, pivoting drills, and much more.  Brian is such a great coach, he is positive, encouraging, calm, and he is a great player himself.  We have been extremely happy with his program as both my sons learn from him, they work hard at his practices and my sons are having fun doing so.

“I highly recommend BT Basketball”

I would like to send out a huge thank you to Brian Thomas and his entire staff for the amazing experience my son had this spring season and all the years leading up to it.  My son has been attending clinics and camps for a few years now.  He has always maintained that BT Basketball camps are his favorite.  Brian has a passion for the game that is so obvious and it spills over into the kids with everything they do, whether it be in a clinic, practice or a game.  I love that!  My son always looks forward to his practices.   He says, “I learn a lot in every practice and it’s ALWAYS fun.”  That’s what I want to hear as a parent.   My son has a passion for the game of basketball too and I love seeing it grow after each and every practice.  Brian teaches the kids how to work hard each day and shows them how important basic skills are if you want to be a successful player. I feel like every kid reaches their fullest potential at each practice.   My son respects him as a coach, teacher and especially as a friend.

I highly recommend BT Basketball for any kid that wants to improve their game.

Training here is top notch!

“My 9 year old daughter loved her first experience playing with BT Basketball! Brian and his staff are great teachers of
the core fundamentals that young players need to reach their potential as basketball players. The practices and
tournament games were well run and provided opportunities to learn and grow as a young player. Brian made it a special

Brian and Team,

I wanted thank you and your coaches on another great spring. It seems every season my daughter continues to improve in
your program. More importantly, our discussions (prompted by her) while traveling to practices and games are geared around
effort, how coaches act, how players act etc. Lessons that are valuable now and beyond high school. Wanting to be at a
BT practice, camp or game is now a priority, not only for the love of the game but the enjoyment she has just to be a
part of your program.
Thank you and we have learned to “trust the process”.

My son Chase was extremely new to the sport when I reached out to Coach Brian about his spring league. Not only did we miss tryouts, but we were a week away from practices starting. I explained to Brian that I was interested in getting my son some more practice on the fundamentals of basketball, as we were so new to the sport, but he really seemed to enjoy it. Coach Brian was kind enough to let Chase join in on the practices even though he had missed tryouts and the season was about to start. This worked out wonderfully for us and Chase learned so much this spring season. He learned more about the game in general and really enjoyed the drills they incorporated into practice that really focused on the fundamentals. Coach Brian was very kind to all the boys and explained he expected all the boys to show up and put in the work, you get what you put into it, so show up ready to work and if they didn’t he would let them know. My son is on the shyer side, but he felt comfortable right out of the gate thanks to Coach Brian and Zach. If you are thinking about signing your kids up, this is an excellent program and you won’t be disappointed! Coach Brian and Zach were absolutely terrific with the boys!

Thanks again and hopefully Chase will get a chance to play on your team again.

Take care!

Our sons have been training and playing with BT Basketball during the last couple of years. Brian and his group of coaches run intense, focused practices working on fundamental and advanced still development. The progress we’ve witnessed in our two boys has been remarkable. Their love for basketball is further nurtured and enhanced by the coaches’ passion for the game. The 2023 Spring Season was one for the Books! Looking forward to many more seasons with BT Basketball!
