A few quick thoughts for today…
What habits do you have?
What habits are you reinforcing?
What habits are you building?
What habits are you breaking?

Habits are what you make of them. They can be positive or they can be destructive. But we all have them. Good ones, bad ones, and ones that don’t really mean anything at all. Think about it. Think about your day today. Think of all the things you did out of pure habit without giving it any thought whatsoever. Think of all the things you did today that were EXACTLY like you did yesterday! Now, many of them probably make no difference, like your routine in the morning getting ready. But many of them do make a huge difference. Take your workout today for example…

Wait…

You did workout today right?
You got your ballhandling drills in right?
You got your jumpers in right?
You did your speed and agility drills right?
You hit the weight room right?

Right????

If you didn’t, that’s a perfect example of how habits can be very detrimental to you. This is a habit that needs to be changed yesterday! If you want to improve your game, it is vital that you get into the habit of working on your game DAILY. Not a few times a week, but every single day.

You did workout today? Great! Congrats to you! Now, let’s talk about the intesity of that workout…
Were you exhausted after the workout, dripping in sweat, beat, toast? If not, then you didn’t workout. You shot around. Does that scare you? It’s ok if does, but what scares you more, the thought of working yourself to the bone this summer? Or the thought of not achieving your goals next winter…
Build a habit of not only working on your game daily, but working on the intesity in which you perform those workouts. Don’t just go the park/gym and arbitrarily shoot around. Work on your game with a purpose. Know what you’re trying to improve during that session. And then block everything else out and get it done! The court was/is my sanctuary. It’s the place where I’ve always been able to go and everything else melts away. I love it. I become consumed by it. There’s a certain freedom in that, in a hard workout where you pushed yourself to the max, knowing you couldn’t go any harder, knowing your sweat means something, knowing you got better today. Again.
