BRIAN THOMAS KEEPS PLAYERS DRIBBLING IN UNCERTAIN TIMES
May 10, 2020
The anxiousness and excitement was ever-present for each of the members of the Brian Thomas Basketball program as they were fitted for their spring AAU uniforms in mid-March.
Twenty-four hours later, Thomas had to begrudgingly email each of their parents to let them know that their three-month season which runs from mid-March to early June was likely not going to happen due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Thomas was anticipating a transformative season for BT Basketball with more than 170 kids from third grade all the way to high school onboard and his most teams ever competing in the spring season.
With the season wiped off the board, Thomas headed to the gym with former Sparta standout forward Alex Podolski to put up some shots and clear his mind with the disappointing news.
“It was one of those things where I needed to let off some steam and try to process it all,” Thomas said. “We got in the gym at about 11:30 that night and shot for a couple of hours, which I haven’t done those hours in many years, but it was a nice outlet to sweat it out and process and be like, ‘What in the world is going on?’ You realize, ‘OK, this is the way it is and now we’ve got to figure out what our next step is from here.’”
